Dr Linda Kouvaras (Senior Lecturer in Musicology at the MCM) has just published Loading the Silence: Australian Sound Art in the Post-Digital Age through Ashgate. The book is the major outcome of an ARC Discovery Grant. After contextualizing experimentalism from its inception in the early twentieth century, the book explores the ways in which selected sound art works demonstrate creatively how sound is embedded within local, national, gendered and historical environments.

Cattapan receives Bulgari Art Award

Congratulations to A/Prof Jon Cattapan who picked up the Bulgari Art Award for his artwork Imagine a Raft (Hard Rubbish 4+5), a triptych painted over a five year period. The prize, one of Australia’s most valuable, consists of $50,000 for the painting acquisition by the Art Gallery of NSW, and a $30,000 residency in Italy. The Age reports.
