Elliott Gyger has emerged as winner, alongside Nigel Westlake, of the 2013 Paul Lowin Prizes. Gyger's winning work in the Song Cycle Prize ($15,000) category was giving voice (2012), a cycle of eight songs for mezzo-soprano and ensemble, based on Australian female poets' words about early childhood and parenthood. Seventeen talented Australian directors from diverse artistic disciplines have each created a chapter of the hauntingly beautiful novel, including VCA alumni Anthony Lucas (GDFTV 1988), Rhys Graham (GDFTV 1998), Tony Ayres, Simon Stone (BDram 2005), Jonathan Auf Der Heide (BFTV 2007) and Justin Kurzel (GDFTV 2004).
