Jane Davidson to lead new research initiative in Creative and Performing Arts

The University of Melbourne has staged a coup, recruiting one of the world’s most respected performance and music psychology academics, Professor Jane Davidson. Professor Davidson will serve as the inaugural head of the University’s major research initiative in the Creative and Performing Arts, based in the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (VCA & MCM).

Pathways scholarships open

The VCA & MCM is offering two professional development programs for recent graduates, funded by the State Government through Arts Victoria. The Professional Pathways Scholarships are worth $25,000 each and will be awarded to seven projects undertaken collaboratively by a Victorian not-for-profit arts organisation and a recent VCA & MCM graduate. The one-year Graduate Mentorships will provide project funding of $25,000 to four recent VCA & MCM graduates who are making their way in the professional arts world and want to work with a mentor.

The University of Melbourne has launched the largest philanthropic Campaign in its 160-year history, seeking to raise $500 million by 2017. $10 million from The Ian Potter Foundation, Martyn and Louise Myer, and The Myer Foundation will go towards the exciting development of the Southbank Campus – using the leverage that philanthropy can provide to encourage government to work in partnership.
